Ever heard of the “alpha male hero”? How about the “beta male hero”? Or even the “omega”? Readers, reviewers, writers, we all have an idea of what makes a hero (or heroine for that matter) “alpha” or something else. Does it really matter, though? Why slap a label on the characters that come to life in the stories we read or write? Can’t a hero straddle these categories and simply be himself?

I explored that topic in my new novel Carte Blanche. In a BDSM environment, the hero is, in relation to the heroine, submissive. Does that make Ray weak? He’d laugh in the face of anyone who suggested as much, and so would his Mistress, Grace. Submitting is a choice on his part, one that comes with both sacrifices and gains and that requires an inner strength some other heroes, tougher in appearances, do not possess. He’s ready to do anything and everything to seduce the woman he wants – and isn’t that what a hero should be, regardless of any label that can be applied to him?

Come and grab a drink and a bite at On The Edge!
While writing my first novel CheckMate, I took my characters to a
dancing club, describing it as a favorite meeting
place for vampires and humans. On a whim, I also mentioned the owner of the club and his two
vampire lovers.
That line and that club haunted me for months until I
revisited them, expanding on what had only been
supposed to remain a secondary location. First came
the Out of the Box series, showing a woman and a
vampire meeting at the club. Then Brett, Lisa and Leo
came to life in On The Edge, giving a glimpse into
what happened backstage at the club, a glimpse to be
expanded in July with Over The Edge. The club was also
the occasion for old lovers to find each other again
in Forget Ever After, and it will bring new lovers
together later this year in Dare I?
So come on in,
ask Leo for your favorite drink, and listen to the
tales the club has to share...

The website has had a makeover and doesn't it look great? Now the book pages are more user friendly, and there's more interaction with the readers, it's all coming together nicely.

There's a poll in The Lounge that will be running until the end of May. Please take time to vote in it as we'd all love to know which Genre is your favourite.

Also, there's a great new author interview with Alexandra Marell there, AND a new competition. This one's really easy, all you have to do is tell us your favourite cover on the site and you could win the ebook of your choice from all the ones here!

:)

Have fun!

1st April 2007

I enjoy reading and writing historical fiction. Stepping into a different place and time takes me out of the fast-paced madness of modern electronic life. I love to learn while being entertained, and I hope I do that with my own writing. Both Dragon & Hawk and Celtic Fire, Desert Rain are set in the wildest heyday of lawless men and shady ladies in the Old West. Reyna Svenson is loosely based on my maternal grandmother: a Mayan-Mexican healer in the early 20th century helping women survive the harshness life dealt them. It’s a thrill to share her stories. Languages and their similarities are my other loves. My mother spoke Spanish to me as a child, I studied Latin in school, and learning Welsh as an adult has enriched my life immensely. I’ve had interviews on BBC Radio Wales a few times, and I’m very excited about an upcoming TV interview I have April 24th on the local Tucson PBS station to discuss my mix of actual local history with fictional characters in my books. Wish me luck!

F.E. Heaton is one person that can kick butt when it comes to magic and the paranormal...This is the first in a series that this reviewer is going to keep an eye out for...readers will be enchanted with F.E. Heaton's imagination and her way of pulling you into this world and different places so easily you will not want to put it down... Awesome job F.E. Heaton and I can't wait for the second in the series.

The twists and turns in this suspense filled story will keep your attention. This first book of the Vampires Realm definitely made me sit up and take notice and I'm already eagerly anticipating the next in the series.

26th November 2006

Hope everyone is looking forwards to the holiday season. I know it’s already begun in the US. Personally I can’t wait. Just thinking about all that time off and fun makes me feel all inspired. Winter is a great time for romance, don’t you think? I’m hoping we get some snow so I’ll feel inspired to finish editing a story I wrote last year for NaNoWriMo. If people don’t know what NaNoWriMo is, it’s a challenge to write 50’000 words in the month of November. I had a blast last year and wanted to do it again this year but I was on holiday for most of the month. There’s only a few days left now, so I’d love to say good luck on the downhill slide to those participating this year. Some great novels are sure to come from it. I’ll be taking part again next year for sure. Chin up people, only a few more days of writing left!
